Pangolin’s patented SafetyScan lenses provide an incredibly easy and affordable way to increase the safety of your laser light shows. The technology used to create these lenses has taken us years to develop, but the wait has been well worth it as we are now able to provide you with this great safety solution.

How it works

Our SafetyScan lenses are a uniquely designed series of “half lenses” which are coated with a special anti-reflective coating on both the front and rear surfaces. These lenses increase the divergence of the laser beam when scanning downward into the audience, but not when projecting overhead. This allows you to create a stunning laser light show, and keep the beams which project on the audience at a fun and safe level while not affecting the overhead beams at all. The end result is a visually-impactful and powerful show, which is much safer and more enjoyable for those in the audience to view.

You can watch our SafetyScan demonstration video, in which we discuss the SafetyScan lenses, and give you a demonstration of how to use them, and how to pick the right lens for your application.

Which Lens is right for my application?

We recommend that you purchase the complete lens set, so that you have all of the lenses at your disposal for any event you may be at. But to help you choose the best lens for your application, we have created a SafetyScan Lens manual, which you can download for free by clicking here. This manual provides a chart, which takes into account the laser projector’s power level and distance to the audience, and helps you choose the right lens for your show. If you need further assistance on choosing the correct lens for your application, please feel free to contact us directly.

How to incorporate the SafetyScan Lens

Incorporating a SafetyScan lens to use with your projector is very easy. We designed these lenses to work with all types of laser projectors, and we have created a generic lens mount that will help you to attach the lens directly to your laser projector.

If you are a projector manufacturer and would like to manufacture your own lens mounts, we are ready to assist you. In fact, we have prepared a zip file with all of the information you will need.

Purchase Options

Pangolin currently makes six different SafetyScan lenses that are available for purchase, ranging from -1 diopter to -6 diopter optical powers. You can purchase these lenses individually for specific applications, or you can purchase the complete lens set, which includes all six lenses inside of a custom made carrying case. When you purchase the complete lens set, or when you purchase six of the same lenses in a single order, you will receive a discount for your quantity purchase. Please contact Pangolin directly for pricing and ordering information.

See what real professionals have to say!

Clients have posed the question “if I increase the divergence of the beam, won’t it make my show appear to be less powerful?” The answer is NO! The technology used in our SafetyScan lenses creates a visual effect which is generally not perceptible by the viewers. Since our lenses only increase the divergence of the beams which scan into the audience, and do not affect the beams which project overhead, your audience will not be able to detect the slight increase in divergence of the beams touching them. And the result is actually a much more pleasant and enjoyable show experience for your audience. No more turning your head because the lasers were too much for your eyes to handle, now your audience can watch the entire show with ease and enjoy each moment.

But do not take our word for it, check out this testimonial from world renowned laserists Alberto Kellner from Laser Entertainment Milano and from Maurice Wortel of Laser Extreme in the Netherlands, and listen to their comments as they experienced the SafetyScan lenses for themselves at the Prolight + Sound Exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany.

Intellectual property, and additional information regarding use in the United States

Pangolin's Safety Scan lenses are a great way to ensure the safety of your audience, when you are performing audience-scanning laser light shows. However, we would like to emphasize that the Safety Scan lenses are just one element used to ensure the absolute safety of your laser equipment and audience. The mere act of incorporating these lenses into a laser projector, does not, in and of itself, allow you to legally perform audience-scanning in the United States (or elsewhere).

It is the responsibility of the laser projector owner and operator, to perform measurements and verify that the level of light projected into the audience is a safe level, as well as fill out necessary paperwork to receive a variance to perform audience scanning. And of course laser projectors used for audience scanning should also incorporate a scan-fail safeguard such as PASS.

Additional information about the SafetyScan lenses can be found in the SafetyScan lens manual, and also in US Patent numbers 8,506,087 and 8,681,828. Other patents pending.
